An interesting example of the history of the most famous German optics manufacturer Zeiss, complete with the eponymous Umbral mineral lenses. These were the first lenses created by the company in 1924 for widespread use in sunglasses. In the 1930s, these lenses were enhanced with an anti-reflective coating that improved their optical properties. By the way, the inventor of this coating was a Ukrainian, Oleksandr Smakula, who worked for Carl Zeiss at the time.
