After all, we have secret drawers in our store where we keep vintage glasses. From time to time, they are updated with new ones. I feel that the end of the year is the right time to talk about things with a history. We got ten models that we want to talk about.
We refer to vintage glasses as glasses created in the 80s and 00s that have already been discontinued. The findings we have collected have not been used until now. So they are not only about the past, but also about the unrepeatable in the present. Each pair of glasses comes with our soft leather case – in its unique red hue and distressing.
Detailed Japanese Matsuda eyeglasses designed like a piece of jewelry. Narrow rectangular brogliders combine warm tortoiseshell acetate with a metal structure. They have a light ornament. Pleasant tactile sensations. You even want to hold them in your hands and look at them. We dream of bringing this brand to Ukraine. We are making plans for the next year. In the meantime, you can be satisfied with vintage.
This is a lightweight metal frame by Giorgio Armani. A rather classic oval silhouette that dates back to the 17th century. The frame is combined: the front is made of metal and the temples are made of glossy black acetate. Pay attention to the patterned engraving on the nose bridge and corners of the frame. Made in Italy, of course. Simple and elegant.
Harlequins by a Parisian craft brand. Transparent green acetate and lightly tinted lens. The expressive front of the frame is inlaid with rhinestones. Francis Klein glasses have a fairy tale feel that will not disappear at midnight.
Rectangular narrow frame from another famous Italian brand. Metal front and acetate brackets. These are the so-called bayonetta glasses – is a new term that refers to a character in a cult video game. But let’s not forget that this vintage frame is from the 90s, long before the latest trends and terms.
Fragile metal harlequin frames decorated with decorative “floral” details. The eyebrow silhouette is reminiscent of the new Etruskan model by Theo. The German brand +Choc- ceased to exist before the active Internet era, so it is difficult to find its information trail on the web. A real rarity from the analog world.
Tortoiseshell panto frame made of thick acetate. It is quite narrow, so it is suitable for small faces. Unusually wide and flat earpiece. Lozza calls itself “the oldest Italian eyewear brand” (founded in 1878). The brand’s modern collections are not very interesting and inferior to others. However, their vintage glasses retain their former appeal.
The compact Aero aviators were featured in the movie Fight Club on Brad Pitt (albeit with a different color lens) and have already become a rare classic. The slightly sporty roundness, gradient glass lens, and metallic shine of the frame are full of boldness – you just want to put a band-aid on the bridge of your nose. They also remind him that this year he is 50.
The frame is by German industrial designer Luigi Colani, known for his numerous projects (if you haven’t heard it, we recommend you to ask). The metal structure is made in the style of bio-design with no straight lines. Pay attention to the atypical petal shape of the toe stops. According to the designer’s website: “There is no other product designed by Colani that reflects his bio-philosophy in such a perfect form as the optical frames collection.”
A typical representative of the German optical brand MGM, which in the 90s produced stick frames, the so-called “Balkenbrille” – a construction made of thin metal poles. The model also features bright brow arches with hand-painted enamel. This frame was customized by our workshop: we replaced the screw fasteners and nose pads, installed a gray sunscreen lens, and polished the temples. So we can confidently proclaim: these are the only glasses of their kind in the world!
Exquisite men’s eyewear from another Japanese picky about details. The lightweight semi-rimmed frame is made of titanium, and the voluminous shaped temples are made of acetate. Special attention should be paid to the unusual nose piece, which looks like a bicycle handlebar.
Secret drawers with vintage
We exlplored new brands throughout the year: Port Tanger, Marni. They brought new collections District Vision, Peter and May, Retrosuperfuture, Mykita, and found the unseen in our favorites Theo. We put our workshop on permanent rails and opened a new space with glasses at TSUM. For all of this, vintage has undeservedly faded into the shadows.
