Matte acetate frames naturally adjust to your complexion, and their rough surface is less susceptible to minor scratches. We’ll show you how to turn a glossy frame into a silky matte one, and if you already have frosted glasses, this method will help you restore their surface from scratches.
The black glossy Moscot Arthur glasses were used as a prototype.
The frame is not new, so it was necessary to remove the scratches with a polishing wheel to achieve a uniform glossy surface. You can learn how to do this here – “Polishing an acetate frame”.
The main tools will be pumice powder, latex gloves and water.
We received a small package of pumice along with instructions from the Dutch manufacturer Suzy Glam, which offers to repair damage to its frosted frames in this way. They know a lot about finishing.
Suzy Glam decides – timber matte
Let’s start preparing the mixture.
1. Насыпаем порошок пемзы в контейнер
2. Добавляем воду
3. Перемешиваем
The finely ground pumice powder is mixed with water to form a wet abrasive mass, which must be rubbed evenly over the surface of the frame in a circular motion until it dries. Pumice is a glassy foam of volcanic origin.
Then rinse and dry the part thoroughly. Inspect the surface for untreated areas and repeat the process. The main thing is to get rid of small pumice particles that can cause unexpected pinpoint damage.
Rinse
Blotting
We get the result.
