If you haven’t seen the wear and tear on glasses, especially on those who, without them, you can hardly remember the last time you saw them, it’s time to show you. This is a Moskot Lemtosh, with a sunglass clip and a full package of wear and tear: acetate discolored by different temperature conditions, scratches, worn paint on the metal, and, of course, the geometry naturally stretched over the years of use.
There is almost nothing left of the gloss.
Кліп теж втомився.
Білі плями – це знебарвлений ацетат.
Our main problem is the surface of the frame, it occupies the main area and seems to take the most time to restore. We will start with it.
We assemble a dust extraction box from a cardboard box using a vacuum cleaner. The design turned out to be quite workable, but inconvenient due to the limited access to the polishing wheel. Therefore, the box appears and disappears.
The Foredom compact polishing machine with two wheels: a soft woolen wheel on the left and a cloth wheel on the right. It is mainly used in jewelry workshops.
Apply the polishing paste to the cloth pad.
And we try to polish the earpiece and the outer side of the temples – these are flat and easily accessible surfaces. It’s a calm and even enjoyable activity.
The result is really good. All white spots and microscratches have disappeared, and in places where there are no deep damages, the surface looks new.
After the finished, already polished brackets have shown their ability to be restored, you can continue working.
It takes about three hours to polish the frame, and then we take on the clip-on – its thin metal construction is largely responsible for the overall chic look of this model.
Just look at the brand new Moscot Lemtosh tortoises. Photo from the Hello Glasses store.
We will restore its former shape and appearance: we will tint the metal in places where the paint has peeled off and align the fastening brackets.
There are also rubber bands on the mounting brackets to protect the frame from scratches when using the clip. Three of the four were lost, so we replaced them with heat-shrinkable tubes, and you can even choose a color for them. We choose black.
Here’s the result: the glasses are in excellent restored condition, with only slightly scuffed lenses, which can be easily solved by replacing them. It’s worth mentioning here that scratches on the lenses cannot be removed in this way, otherwise you will lose the coatings and their transparency.
The restoration took two working days to complete:
disassembling for parts;
general polishing;
cleaning and minor repairs of the clip-on;
restoring the geometry of the frame.
The cost of polishing depends on the degree of wear of the acetate, the number of frame parts and their damage, and the cost of the frame itself. But it starts at 1600₴. You can find the cost of all the works performed by our workshop here.
